In the early hours of a cold February morning, I was awake and lay thinking in the dark. Due to the Covid outbreak Martin and I had had to cancel our holidays plans and had not travelled since December 2019.
Travel has always been important to us and the idea of two weeks in the same hotel in the same resort fills us with dread. We have travelled to Thailand, Indonesia, Borneo, Peru, Malaysia and Vietnam in the past and we should have been going to South Africa, but all our plans were cancelled.
I was thinking about life and what’s important I realised that my life had become unfulfilled, there had to be more to life than going to work, coming home and then going to bed. Covid restricted so much of our freedoms, ended so many lives prematurely, it brought home to me how we only have one life, and we need to live it. It was there and then that I decided we needed to get off the wheel for a bit and go and see what the world has to offer.
When I got up, I say the words my husband dreads most in life “Babe, I have been thinking……” he said what about so I told him that I thought we should look into travelling for a year or two. He didn’t hesitate to say yes, he totally agreed. Fabulous I thought now time to start planning.
